The 285/50 VR 15 Pirelli P7 was considered worth making again, because not only does it fit the De Thomaso Pantera from 1979 to 1984, but also the earlier models from 1975 to 1978 shared a 10” rear rim, so a 285/50 VR 15 is an ideal alternative to the 255/60 VR 15 Pirelli Cinturato CN12, fitted originally. However the difficulty with the CN12 is that there is not a matching front in that a 205/60 VR 15 CN12 is not currently available. The advantage with the Cinturato P7 set up is that the 225/50 VR 15 P7 can also be fitted on the 7” rim of the Pantera L, GTS and Group 3 Pantera of the mid-1970s.

It is also worth noting that the 285/50 VR 15 Pirelli Cinturato is a useful addition to the 15” Pirelli P7 range which also includes 205/50 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P7, 225/50 VR 15 P7, the 285/40 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P7 which with the 345/35 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P7 were fitted to the final evolutions of the Pantera GT4, GT5 and GT5-S. This extended range of P7 offers a great option for cars like the AC Cobra.

The tyres were originally named 285/50VR15 P7 however they are actually homologated as a 285/50 R15 104Y, as they do actually qualify for the higher Y speed rating. This detail is written on the side wall in less conspicuous smaller writing to keep the tyres looking as they did back in the day.
